Cricket witnesses a new format, 3 Teams Instead of 2
June 18, 2020: After T20, Super Sixes, Double Wicket, The Hundred, and T10, the world of cricket witnesses yet another format.
South Africa has introduced the 3TC (3 Team Cricket) format, in which matches shall be played amongst three instead of between two teams, each composed of 8 players.
According to Cricket South Africa, the first 3TC match will be played on 27th June, in which AB deVilliers, Kagiso Rabada, and Quinton deKock, will captain three different teams. 24 players of the South African team will be in action during the match. The match will be for a total of 36 overs out of which 18 shall be played in the first half and 18 in the second half.
Each team shall be composed of 8 players and will play for 12 overs. 6 of these overs will be played in the first half against one team and 6 in the second half against the other team. If 7 wickets fall during the allocated overs, the 7th player can bat alone but he will only be able to score doubles, fours, and sixes.

The teams in the match will be in three positions: batting side, bowling side, and dugout side. In the first half there will be a toss for the positions and in the second half the batting orders will be decided based on the team that scored more in the first half.
There will be gold, silver, and bronze medals in the match. The team with the most runs shall be eligible for the gold medal. If there is a tie between two teams the gold will be decided based on a super over and if there is a tie amongst all three teams, they will all qualify for the gold medal.
