Daughter of Philippines leader runs for vice-president

Phillipines: The eldest daughter of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, Sara Duterte, will run for vice-president in next year’s elections.

This puts an end to an era of only speculating her next move regarding the elections. Many had expected her to follow up after her father in his footsteps, who now cannot run for the elections. Mayor of the major city of Davao, Ms Duterte, had led opinion polls all year as the top presidential candidate.

She has now joined a new political party of the name “Lakas-CMD” previously headed by President Gloria Arroyo, replacing another candidate who had withdrawn.
