ECP to seek army's deployment in the second phase of LG elections in KPK

Jan 5, 2022: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to call for the deployment of army in the second phase of local body elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK).

A statement issued by the ECP said that the decision was taken due to poor law and order situation during the first phase of the elections. He said that in the next phase, the army would be deployed along with the police.

The ECP added that it would take legal action against those responsible for the violence in the first round of local government elections. Last week, the ECP decided to postpone the second round of local government elections in KP until March.

The second phase of local body elections in the remaining 18 districts of the province, including Hazara and Malakand, will now take place in March. Earlier, reports said that the second phase of LG elections would be held on January 16, and directed the concerned departments to make arrangements in this regard.
