Elon Musk sets out Starlink goals #Baaghi

June 30, 2021: Elon Musk claims that his Star Link Satellite Internet system could provide connectivity from anywhere in the world except the Poles by August.

As a competitor, he said, OneWeb received funding to complete its first-generation constellation of 648 satellites. StarLink customers connect using small satellite receivers, called the Dishy McFlatface, which costs $500. But Mr Musk said the terminals cost more than $ 1,000 (£ 720).

Presenting the Mobile World Congress, which is being held physically in Barcelona as well as online, from afar, he said that StarLink had “a significant number of 69,420 active users in terms of strategy.”  And he expects 500,000 subscribers in 12 months.

Mr Musk said the company had two partnerships with “major country” telecommunications companies. And StarLink helped companies meet the requirements of their 5G licenses, which require providing coverage to rural customers. SpaceX has already launched about 1,800 satellites into orbit and expects to have 12,000 satellites in the sky by 2026. Mr Musk said the combined solar energy from the satellites generated five megawatts of electricity. After being licensed by Offcom in November, Starlink began a trial in January for its services in the UK.

OneWeb, partly owned by UK taxpayers, has 218 low-Earth satellites and will launch 36 more on Thursday. Commercial internet services are expected to be launched soon, setting a latitude of 50 degrees north. And this month, OneWeb and BT signed an agreement to explore ways to provide broadband internet in remote areas of the UK and at sea.

Amazon also plans to launch a constellation of low-Earth orbits to provide broadband access to remote areas as part of its Kuiper project. Astronomers have expressed concern about light pollution and other interference caused by these low-Earth orbit satellites.
