Emirates expects busy holiday travel period

Dubai’s state airline, Emirates, has permanently terminated the contracts of its pilots and cabin crew because of the financial crunch caused by the coronavirus outbreak. 

According to the details of Baaghi TV, Emirates airline has fired 600 pilots and 6000 cabin crew today after the COVID-19 pandemic caused passenger demand to plummet.

As per the reports received, the numbers are expected to increase in the near future.

According to details, the employees are given a notice period of 90 calendar days and the last day of service (LDS) will be September 13, 2020. Moreover, the company sponsorship and residence visa will also be cancelled from the LDS.

However, the employee will not be given a right to appeal against this redundancy decision.

Medical insurance of employees and their registered eligible dependents will also be ceased on the LDS. However, the employees will be given any outstanding remuneration, value of unused annual leaves, and End of Service Benefit or Provident Scheme benefits at the LDS.

Further pressure has been heaped on Emirates and many other airlines because of travel bans and entry restrictions being imposed by governments around the world.

Earlier, Gulf carriers Emirates and Etihad Airways are extending the period of reduced pay for their staff until September as they try to preserve cash during the global coronavirus pandemic.

The airlines had extended a three month wage cut due to end this month until September 30 by 50 percent.
