Qatar Airways cuts jobs as COVID-19 grounds most of its flights

State owned flag carrier of Qatar, Qatar Airways, will lay off staff members including cabin crew in a cost-saving move aimed at shoring up its bottom line as its planes sit idle amid a sharp decrease in demand caused by the coronavirus.

The airline said that closed borders have rendered many of their destinations and the aircrafts grounded due to which they are facing adversity on unprecedented scale.

However, the airline management has requested their HR Department to work on a special recruitment program that will allow a swift return for their staff in the future.

“For those who cannot return to their home countries straight away, the Company will provide housing and a special living allowance until repatriation is possible,” said the airline management.

Furthermore, Qatar Airways management thanked their staff members for their loyalty and contributions.
