Lahore, 26th May: Explosion at a petrochemical plant in Iran kills one and injures two others.

Baaghi TV: One person was killed and two others were injured in an explosion at a petrochemical plant in  Asaluyeh, southern Iran, off the coast of the Persian Gulf on Wednesday.

This is the third such incident reported at a petrochemical plant in Iran within a week.

The blast occurred along the oxygen transmission line between the Mobin Petrochemical Plant in Damascus and Damavand Energy Company, according to a recent statement on the Damavon Energy Company website.

The fire was brought under control. The director of public relations at the Mobin plant told Iranian media that the complex was still operating without any problems.

The two companies connected to the oxygen transmission line are responsible for generating electricity in Iran, among other services.
Soon after the incident, there was a widespread blackout in Iran. Iranian authorities said that the reason for the explosion may not be clear yet.
However, Iranian media reported that increased power usage due to the morning of cryptocurrency and hot weather is one of the possible reasons.
Another reason could be the delay in repairs on power plants in the country.

The Iranian Minister of Energy clarified this week that the country’s power plants have not been able to maintain demand and that cryptocurrency is a major consumer of mining energy.

The Minister emphasized that the cyber attack was not behind the power outage.

This is the third incident reported at a petrochemical plant in Iran since the beginning of the week. Earlier this week, incidents took place at Kangan Petro Refining Company (KPRC) and petrochemical plants in Shahin city.
