Extra-Curricular activities restricted in schools of following districts

Lahore, 8th March: With the increasing cases of coronavirus in Punjab, the provincial government has imposed restrictions on extracurricular activities in all the educational institutes.

Baaghi TV: According to reports, the Punjab Education Department on Monday has imposed restrictions in schools on all the co-curricular activities until the resumption of the normalcy of educational activities.

As per reports, the notification was issued after a school teacher at a government school contracted the virus while another was quarantined after testing positive.

As per details from Geo News, Fehmida Bano, a teacher at Government Khanum Girls High School passed away due to virus complications, whereas, Zardqa Firdous of Government Girls Higher Secondary School Awan Town was in quarantine after testing positive.

Punjab Education Minister Murad Raas announced on Twitter that a ban on all sports and public activities is imposed in schools across some cities of Punjab.

The minister wrote, “Restrictions on Co-Curricular activities in the 7 Districts stated in the notification due to COVID 19. No Gala, sports activities or public gatherings. All to ensure SOPs compliance in letter and spirit, as already conveyed.”

According to the notification, no sports or extracurricular activity shall be conducted in those districts where the COVID-19 positivity ratio is more than 20 cases i.e. Lahore, Gujrat, Multan, Rahim Yar Khan, Sialkot, Rawalpindi and Faisalabad subject to the resumption of the normalcy of educational activities.

It is to be noted that on Feb 26, Murad Raas had announced that schools in these districts would follow alternate day rule until April 1 due to higher coronavirus cases there while in other districts regular classes would resume.

The notification further stated that the situation will be reviewed on March 31.

Previously, Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mehmood had announced that all schools would resume regular 5-day classes from March 1.
