Farrukh Habib Foreign Funding Reference on PPP: ECP Order
17th January 2021: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued an order regarding the foreign funding reference against the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPPP).
The order states:
“Vide Order dated 17-08-2020, the Scrutiny Committee referred the matter to the commission with the following observations:
“17. The committee is constrained not to give any opinion on this matter as the respondent has not provided any documents to the Committee i.e. list of contributors/donors, bank statements, etc.
….
It is important to add that vide order dated 29.11.2019, 11.12.2019, 03.03.2020, and 16.07.2020, respondents were directed to provide the details of their accounts but the positive response is still awaited. The respondents have not provided any material in respect of list of contributors/donors and bank statements, etc. For the completion of record, the committee was also allowed by the commission to requisite the bank statements of the respondent parties through Governor State Bank of Pakistan…
… Since the record is not complete in all respects, therefore the commission has no option except to remand the matter back to the scrutiny committee with the direction to do the needful in accordance with the law and after the collection of material record submit a comprehensive report to the commission within a period of six weeks but not later than 5.11.2020…
