Nov 1, 2021: Pakistan could face fifth wave of corona virus this winter as people stop using face masks, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Health Dr Faisal Sultan warned while talking on a show on private TV network SamaaTV.
“It’s dangerous,” he said. Dr Sultan said the government had achieved some of the vaccination targets. “Millions of people in the country still need to be vaccinated against the corona virus,” he said, adding that these people are most at risk.
“Millions in the country still need to be vaccinated against coronavirus,” he said, adding that these people are at most risk.
In total, more than 150 million people in the country need to be vaccinated, he said. So far 26 per cent have been fully vaccinated and 20 per cent more have received a single dose. Second dose is vital for protection against Covid, said Dr Sultan and urged people to “get fully vaccinated,”
Dr Faisal also said that despite the rapid decline in cases of Covid 19, the fifth wave of corona virus could infect Pakistan if vaccination rates were not increased. “To ensure that there is no fifth wave of cod, we need to meet the vaccination targets.” “If a large part of the population is not vaccinated, we will be at risk,” he added.
Talking about the increase in dengue cases, he said that there are three to four factors involved in dengue virus. In addition to mosquitoes, climate change, hygiene and immunity also play a role in the number of cases. Dr Sultan said that a dangerous wave of dengue had hit Lahore 10 years ago.
He added that every few years there is a wave of dengue virus. Steps are being taken to control dengue, but the number of public health workers is limited. The basic health system does not exist as an organization and more needs to be done.
