Sept 30, 2021: After Met Office raised alarms about a possible storm about to touch Karachi’s coast, the airlines have rescheduled their flights which were scheduled to depart from Karachi today.

At least three domestic flights of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) which were scheduled to depart at three different destinations today have been canceled. PK 594 to Sukkur, PK 304 to Lahore and PK 310 to Quetta were canceled, among other flights of other airlines.

The provincial capital braces itself as heavy to very heavy rains are expected in the city and adjoining coastal areas as predicted by the Meteorological Department in the Sindh Makran coastal belt under the influence of cyclonic weather conditions.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast intermittent rain with cloudy skies and strong winds and thundershowers in Karachi. The windy weather is continuing in Karachi as winds are blowing at 18 kmph in the city.

The remnants of Hurricane Gulab are currently located 103 nautical miles above the Indian city of Gujarat as a well-marked low pressure area that could turn into Hurricane Shaheen in the Arabian Sea tomorrow (Friday).

Meanwhile, PIA has made a Covid-19 vaccination certificate mandatory for air travel on its domestic flights.

According to a spokesperson for the national airline, unvaccinated people will not be able to travel on its inbound flights from October 1 (tomorrow).

He said citizens will have to show proof of vaccination before proceeding to board a flight. Instructions to this effect have been issued to the relevant PIA departments.

Earlier, the CAA put out a notification saying, unvaccinated people aged 18 years and above were barred from undertaking air travel within Pakistan from September 10.
