Four die as train rams into car in Pattoki

At least four people were killed when their car was hit by a passenger train in a railway track near Pattoki on Tuesday.
According to sources, the car was crossing Landa railway track in Pattoki when a fast-moving passenger train, which was bound for Karachi, hit it. It was coming from Lahore. The four people died on the spot.
Meanwhile, rescue teams and police reached the spot and shifted the bodies to the nearby hospital for legal formalities.
One woman was rushed to a hospital in a critical condition while the Pakistan Railways employee responsible for maintaining the crossing fled the scene.
The family members – two brothers and their wives – were the residents of Gehlan Chak No 9.
Police say the tragic collision was caused by the open railway crossing where several accidents have occurred in the past.
According to an eyewitness, the Landa Railway Crossing was open and, therefore, the driver tried to cross it. But suddenly the train smashed into the car, destroying it completely, which resulted in the death of three persons on the spot.
The two brothers have been identified as Hammad and Jawad, while the injured women is Kiran who has been referred to a hospital in Lahore. The name of the dead woman could not be ascertained by the time this report was being filed.
Collision between the vehicles and trains at railway level crossings are a routine news in Pakistan. Most of these crossings are either unmanned or have poor communication system.
