French team arrives in Karachi to investigate PIA plane crash

French experts consisting of the 11-member team have arrived in the southern port city to investigate Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane crash. The probe team will also provide technical assistance to local investigation team.

As per to media reports, the team will visit the model colony, where plane crashed, and runway of Karachi airport to find evidence that could help in finding reasons behind crash of PIA’s flight PK-8303 which crashed just minutes before landing at Karachi airport.

In a recent letter issued to all airlines operating the A-320 jets, Airbus said they will provide full technical cooperation to the PIA, Air France, and engine manufacturer CFM International after the crash.

The company also conveyed its condolences to and solidarity with the families of those killed in the accident. It said the aircraft’s registration and manufacturer serial numbers were APBLD and 2274, respectively. The plane was handed over to the PIA in 2014 and had completed 47,100 flight hours and 25,860 flight cycles until its crash.

On Friday, a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight PK-8303 carrying 90 passengers and eight crew members crashed in the densely-populated Model Colony, a residential area near Jinnah International Airport Karachi, as a result, several lives lost and around five homes and some vehicles destroyed in the mishap.

The ill-fated plane took off from Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport at 1:10pm and was scheduled to land in Karachi. According to sources, at least 97 people lost their lives in the incident while 2 passengers, Bank of Punjab president Zafar Masud and Muhammad Zubair, the young mechanical engineer have miraculously survived.

The bodies of 41 people out of the 97 killed in the incident have been identified and handed over to heirs, whereas the process of the bodies’ identification through DNA test is underway.
