Government is preferring national interest over popularity as decisions taken by federal government has gained less popularity said a former president of ICCI.

According to reports of Baaghitv, former president of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, ICCI Dr. Shahid Rasheed Butt said on Saturday that Prime Minister Imran Khan has taken tough measures to revive national economy which are less popular as he has preferred national interests over popularity.

Dr. Butt said, it must be understood that our economy is on ventilator and will take some time to get out of ICU.  He said federal government is relying on taxes to run the country as tax collection is the only way to become self-sufficient in economic sphere.

He lamented previous regimes were unwilling to take bold steps and repeatedly took U-turns over tax matters which shook the foundations of economy and ballooned foreign debt to over 100 billion dollars.

He said tax evasion has become a culture in our country which is responsible for leading our country towards bankruptcy and therefore it is high time this culture should be avoided. He said, the present government has rightly decided to take a firm stance on tax collection and not to backtrack from this firm stance is not a choice but a compulsion. He further added, plunder in the name of the business and making money without paying taxes is no more an option.
