Government Takes Big Decision on Dowry and Protection of Brides

3rd October 2020, Baaghi TV: The Ministry of Religious Affairs has proposed a ban on the demand and display of dowry by bridegrooms.
According to the proposed amendment:
- The value of dowry and bridal gifts shall not exceed an equivalent of 4 tolas of gold
- The spending on marriage shall not exceed an equivalent of 4 tolas of gold
- Guests will not be allowed to give presents exceeding a value of Rs 1000
- The details and value of dowry and bridal gifts shall be written down on a column in the Nikahnama
- In case of divorce the wife shall receive back the dowry and gifts or an equivalent amount in cash
Initially the bill will be applicable in Islamabad. Other provinces have also expressed a willingness for its implementation.
