Government to lift COVID-19 restrictions in cities with positivity below 10%

Feb 14, 2022: Amid a drop in the positivity ratio of COVID-19 in the country, the federal government on Monday has decided to lift the restrictions in cities with a positivity ratio below 10% for at least three days.

Sources familiar with the matter said the government would relax corona virus measures from February 16 (Tuesday), including the resumption of regular classes and indoor dining, as the rate of infection has dropped significantly across the country. According to sources, “Eating with SOPs will be allowed and children under 12 will be allowed to start normal classes.”

The National Command and Operations Center (NCOC) imposed the ban last month when the fifth wave of COVID-19 spread across the country and the positive ratio was high in major cities.

Previously, students under the age of 12 were allowed to go to schools with 50% attendance. However, for students over 12 years of age (fully vaccinated), the NCOC recommended 100% attendance. During this time there was a complete ban on eating indoors. NCOC data on Monday morning showed that Pakistan saw a significant reduction in the number of deaths per day from COVID-19 after an increase of more than 10 days.

The NCOC figures show that 29 more people became infected with the corona virus overnight, bringing the total number of deaths nationwide to 29,801.

The number of COVID-19 recuperation cases has witnessed a steady rise, which took the total recoveries count to 1,379,921.
