Gwadar: Members of banned organization destroy Quaid statue

Sept 27, 2021: A statue of Father of the Nation Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah was destroyed on Sunday by miscreants in the port city of Gwadar.

The statute was erected earlier this year on Marine drive, a major thoroughfare of the developing city and is considered a part of the safe zone.

The terrorists reportedly planted an explosive device beneath the statue which completely destroyed the sculpture.

Reports quoting officials cited that the outlawed Baloch Liberation Front claimed responsibility for the bombing of Jinnah’s statue which was mounted at Marine Drive in Gwadar earlier this year.

“The statue of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah was blown up using explosive enteral,” Dr Farhan Zahid, an official, stated and added that the statue was completely destroyed by the blast.

He also said that the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) will investigate the incident. No human loss was reported in the incident, the official confirmed.

Gwadar Deputy Commissioner Major (retd) Abdul Kabir Khan speaking with an international news outlet said the matter is being investigated at the highest level while adding that the militants visited the area as tourists.

Meanwhile, no arrest has been made so far as officials mentioned to probe the matter from all angles.

Security was beefed up in the port city following the incident, with additional security personnel deployed at various points.

Balochistan’s Senator Sarfraz Bugti also shared a tweet in this regard in which he termed it as an attack on the Ideology of Pakistan. “I request authorities to punish the perpetrators in the same way as we did with those behind the attack on Quaid-e-Azam residency in Ziarat”, he added.

Earlier in 2013, Baloch terror outfit destroyed Jinnah’s residency at Ziarat, the residence of Pakistan’s founder where he spent the last days of his life.

A week ago, the Counter-Terrorism Department foiled a terrorism plan hatched by the Balochistan Liberation Army during an intelligence-based operation on the outskirts of Quetta city.

According to a CTD spokesperson, a terrorist was arrested during the operation and a large amount of explosives was recovered from his possession.
