Historic Event, 8 Kuwaiti Women Appointed as Judges

Kuwait City: For the first time in the history of Kuwait, 8 women judges are going to be appointed.

According to Arab media, Kuwaiti Public Prosecutor Zarar Al-Assousi has promoted 8 women from prosecution to the post of judge, now these women are waiting for the approval of the High Judicial Council.

Kuwait is the fourth Gulf country to have a female judge, judicial sources said, adding that Kuwait’s Supreme Judicial Council will meet on Tuesday to approve the decision to appoint women judges. The women will start working as judges from the beginning of September.

The speaker of the Kuwaiti parliament, Marzouk Ali al-Ghanem, has said that the decision to appoint Kuwaiti women to the post of judge was awaited, thanks to which Kuwaiti women will move forward in the process of development.

“Women have been raising the banner of their achievements for years in all fields,” she said.

The eight women appointed as judges include Fatima Abdul Muneem Atiyah, Fatima Faisal Al-Kandri, Fatima Yaqub Al-Farhan, Sanabel Badr Al-Houti, Bashair Abdul Jalil Ali, Bashair Saleh Al-Raqdan, narrator Assam Al-Tabtabai and Lulu Ibrahim Al-Ghanim.

It should be noted that Kuwait is not the first in the Gulf countries to appoint women in the judiciary. Earlier, the UAE, Qatar and Bahrain have also appointed women in their judiciary.
