ICAO Appoints New Secretary General, Dr. Fang Liu Replaced

New York: The Secretary-General of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Dr. Fang Liu of China, has been replaced in her role by Colombia’s Juan Carlos Salazar.

The new Secretary-General has taken over as the CEO of UN’s specialized agency for civil aviation, as the international flight network continues to assure effective global movement of necessities, such as food, vaccines, e-commerce goods, and other essential items and personnel despite the challenge being faced in the form of COVID-19.

Salazar stated that it is a great honor to have the opportunity to help governments the world over and ICAO plays an important role in how the aviation industry improves and recovers from the setbacks of the global epidemic.

He further said “We are still facing some tremendous challenges to restore global air connectivity, and many regions and populations around the world are facing long economic, social, and emotional difficulties. ”

Juan Carlos Salazar was appointed Secretary-General of the ICAO after a thorough examination of a number of candidates.

The ICAO Council President Salvatore Sciacchitano stated, “The ICAO Council has expressed happiness over the appointment and has said that the institution is very proud of his appointment. He is more than capable of his new role and has also rendered many services. I look forward to working closely with him in helping to modernize ICAO and make it a more responsive and efficient agency at the service of its 193 Member States.” The President also paid tribute to Dr. Fang Liu’s contributions and efforts which she made during her two terms as Secretary-General.
