Dr. Aafia Siddiqui Overall Fine, Only Minor Injuries: Zahid Hafeez
In response to media queries regarding the well-being of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, a statement was issued by Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri, spokesperson of the Foreign Office, wherein he stated she was alright apart from some minor injuries.
According to reports, to some media questioning, Zahir Hafeez, the Foreign Office’s spokesperson, stated that they learnt of the assault on Dr. Afia Siddiqui by a fellow inmate at FMC Carswell on 30 July 2021.
He went on to state that the Pakistan embassy in Washington DC, as well as the Consulate General in Houston, immediately took up the matter with the concerned US authorities.
He further said that the Consul Genera immediately paid Dr. Siddiqui a visit ascertain her well-being and discovered that she had received some minor injuries but was doing fine overall.
A formal complaint was lodged with the relevant US authorities to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure the safety and welfare of Dr. Siddiqui.
He assured that both the embassy in Washington DC and the Consulate General of Pakistan have been making every effort to ensure the doctor is being looked after properly as she serves her sentence at FMC Carswell.
