Lahore, 2th May: After the threat of another severe cyclone in India, the authorities have started moving more than a million people to safety on the east coast.

According to reports, after the dreadful Cyclone Tauktae wreaked havoc in India, another cyclone, Yaas is expected to reach the east coast of the country, the officials reported on Tuesday.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that Cyclone Yaas will emerge from the Bay of Bengal and would enter the eastern states of Odisha and West Bengal, and also Bangladesh, on Wednesday.

IMD chief Mrutyunjay Mohapatra told Reuters over the telephone conversation that Cyclone Yaas is likely to cause large-scale damage.
Soon after the announcement, the authorities in India began displacing the people in cars and boats from low-lying coastal areas to take shelter at government buildings, schools, and other strong buildings.
Fishermen have been advised to shift their boats to safety inland prior to the Cyclone. Pregnant women and children have been sent to government hospitals for their safety.
An official in Odisha’s Balasore district disclosed that evacuation is always a challenge, as people are reluctant to leave their homes and places. He added that this time there is fear of COVID too in the country so people are more afraid.

It is to pertinent to mention here that at this time of the year the cyclones in the Bay of Bengal are common and often reach shore, causing deaths and massive destruction in coastal areas of both India and Bangladesh.

It is to be recalled that last week, Cyclone Tauktae, the most powerful to hit India’s west coast killed more than 150 people.
