India's BJP govt. lambasted by PM Imran Khan for registering cases against Gilani family

Sept 5, 2021: Pakistan’s PM Imran Khan on Sunday slammed Indian PM Narendra Modi’s led BJP government for allowing authorities in IIOJK to snatch the body of Kashmir freedom fighter Syed Ali Gilani and then filing a case against the family of senior the senior Kashmiri leader.

In a Times of India article, on the treatment meted out to the Kashmiri stalwart, the premier said that it was “another shameful example of India’s descent into fascism under the Nazi-inspired RSS-BJP govt”.

Syed Ali Gilani died in Srinagar on Wednesday at the age of 92 after succumbing to a prolonged illness. His death prompted Indian authorities to close down communications in Indian Illegaly Occupied Jammu and Kashmir citing security reasons.

Occupying forces erected barbed wire and barricades on the roads leading to Gilani’s home in the central city of Srinagar, for fear mourners would gather and demonstrate strength against them.

Gilani’s son had accused police of taking his father’s body to be buried in the middle of the night, hours after his death, but local police denied the allegations.

On Saturday, however, Indian authorities filed a case against Gilani’s family for chanting anti-state slogans at his funeral and wrapping the body of the deceased politician in a Pakistani flag – the images of which allegedly went viral.

The Times of India quoted a police official as saying: “The FIR was registered at Budgam police station against the family along with other elements for chanting anti-national slogans and putting Pakistani flag on the body of the separatist at his homes on Wednesday.”
