According to Hamas, 9 Palestinians have been martyred in Israeli air-strikes after the operation against worshipers in Al Aqsa mosque, which left several hundreds severely injured. Palestinians described a flash raid by Israeli security forces on the Al-Aqsa compound on Monday in which hundreds of people were injured as Israeli nationalists marched on the congregation.
Israeli security forces had stormed the third holiest site of Islam in Jerusalem as many worshipers were praying in the mosque, with snipers firing grenades, tear gas and rubber metal shells as they took up positions. To date, this has been the most violent crack down during the holy month of Ramadan, by Israeli illegal occupying forces against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. According to a 17 year old survivor of the raid, Ibrahim, the Israeli police raided all the gates of the Al Aqsa Masjid and hurled grenades that set the carpets on fire, he said he managed to escape by taking refuge in a local clinic.
The Palestinian authorities say the number of injured is over 200, with 153 hospitalized and four in critical condition. According to a Palestinian doctor treating the victims, one of the worshipers has a rubber bullet lodged in his throat. The Israeli army, however refused to immediately comment on the raid on the enclave. The doctor said the compound had turned into a battlefield and the only respite from choking was to be near the windows. Israel has blocked all outside medical teams from approaching the injured.
The latest violence comes as occupied East Jerusalem prepares for a planned Jewish nationalist march through the city on Monday. The annual Jerusalem Day Flag March marks the day that the Israelis started the illegal occupation during after the Solidarity Day of Jerusalem in 1967.
Meanwhile, a video of Palestinian double bass player for Palestinian Youth, courageous Maryam Afifi being arrested by Israeli forces has gone viral. In the video, the girl is seen smiling while being handcuffed and asking the Israeli soldier arresting her, what her crime is. Maryam says she was being detained because she is the voice of truth and for protesting against the atrocities committed by the occupying forces.
In the video, Maryam boldly and decisively addresses an Israeli soldier in English, asking, “What have you accused me of, why have you arrested me, what have I done, what have I done?” Defend only a girl who was being beaten or because I am defending people who will be evicted from their homes?
Meanwhile, the Gaza Ministry of Health said that nine Palestinians were martyred in Israeli airstrikes in the Palestinian territories after the blockade against Israel. According to eyewitnesses, three children were among the martyrs.
