LONDON (26th Nov, 2019): England’s Labour Party would scrap the controversial Sats exams in English primary schools.

According to reports of Baaghi TV, the Labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn has announced that the next Labour Government will scrap primary school SATs for 7 and 11 year olds.

While talking to National Education Union conference, Corbyn said, “SATs and the regime of extreme pressure testing are giving young children nightmares and leaving them in floods of tears. Teachers are reporting instances of sleeplessness, anxiety and depression even in primary school children during these exam periods.”

He further said, “These excessive exams are not driving up standards but they’re driving up stress both for children and for teachers and when the system forces teachers to teach the test, narrowing down the range of learning to core parts of core subjects to get through exams that’s not helping pupils.”

While talking about the importance of the children’s lives, he added, “We need to prepare children for life, not just for exams. Tests are bad for children, bad for parents and bad for teachers. We need a different approach and the next Labour Government will scrap primary school SATs for 7 and 11 year olds.”
