Nov 9, 2021: Lahore has once again topped the world rankings with the most dangerous air quality on record.
The city recorded an air quality index or AQI above 500 on Tuesday morning. The readings was recorded at 508 in Kot Lakhpat, 456 in Township, 455 in Defense, 450 in Eden Cottage and 427 in Fatehgarh.
According to the Environmental Protection Department or EPD, key contributors to air pollution include vehicle emissions, industrial emissions and the burning of crop birds to prepare the fields for next season.
Smog reduced visibility across Lahore, causing inconvenience to passengers.
Meanwhile, Lahore Commissioner Muhammad Usman, while banning the burning of municipal garbage, warned that cases would be registered against the violators.
The deputy commissioners will take action and submit daily reports on the burning of crop residues on agricultural lands, he said, adding that the RTA and the secretary of traffic police should seize the vehicles emitting smoke.
