A heavy contingent of police and law enforcement agencies has been deployed outside the Supreme Court in view of lawyers’ protests outside the Supreme Court.

Various bar councils are of the view that the seniority principle was not taken into account in the appointment of judges.

According to reports, lawyers across the province are boycotting the courts on the appeal of the Sindh Bar Council against ignoring the principle of seniority in the appointment of judges in the Supreme Court.

Lawyers have not appeared in court since this morning. The entrances of the Sindh High Court were closed for questioning, while the lawyers in other lower courts, including the City Court, did not appear in court.

Prisoners were also not brought to the courts in the city, which led to the adjournment of thousands of cases.

General Secretary High Court Bar Association Omar Soomro Advocate said that during the Lawyers Convention in Karachi, it was decided they will go on a nationwide strike for ignoring seniority in the appointment of judges in the Supreme Court.

There was also a partial strike in the lower courts of Lahore. According to Riaz-ul-Hassan Gilani, president of the High Court Bar Association, the strike was called by the Pakistan Bar Council, upon which lawyers in the District Courts and Lahore High Court Multan Bench will not appear before the courts.
