LGS Sexual Harassment: Board of Directors take serious action

Lahore, 3rd July: The Board of Directors of the Lahore Grammar School (LGS) has issued a statement regarding the recent sexual harassment incidents that have been highlighted for the past week.
As reported by Baaghi TV, many girls from the LGS 1-A1 branch have come forward and filed a complaint against the male staff of their faculty, which have been sexually harassing the girls for quite a long time.

The girls had complained that not only their male teachers targeted them but the school administration and few of their female staff participated as ‘Enablers’ as not helping them.

It is reported that Mrs. Shakil, the school principal of the 1-A1 branch snubbed the girls, whenever they came forward with their complaints and Miss Maira Omaira, the coordinator used to malign the girls on their characters and dressing.
The girls have not taken this matter lightly now, and have gone openly on social media to raise their voice so that strict action can be taken against the perpetrators.
LGS Sexual Harassment: Investigative Committee to be formed
The school administration terminated the 4 male employees instantly, however, later on, the Board of Directors of LGS also terminated the Principal and Mrs. Maira Omair. Punjab Government has taken notice of the terrible incident and has issued an inquiry committee.

Recently, a statement has been issued by the LGS Board of Directors stating that they will ensure all complaints will be listened to and no student will have to go through the ordeal of feeling unheard. It said, “LGS is all about teaching students to use their voice to create a better world; it is fundamental now that we listen.”

Following a consultative process with students and alumni, it has been decided that several concrete steps will be taken to address this issue including:

- Formation of an inquiry committee, which will look into allegations of harassment.
- A handbook for teachers and students setting out what constitutes inappropriate behavior.
- Mandatory training on harassment for faculty, staff, and students.
- The publicizing of our anti-harassment policy on our website, on school bulletin boards, and in visible school areas to ensure everyone is aware of its terms.
These are the steps that all the branches of LGS have promised to take and ensure the safety of their students.
