Mobile Services to be Shut Down in Major Cities due to 9 Muharram

Mobile services to be temporarily shut down in various cities across Pakistan to ensure law and order situation on 9th Muharram. Even pillion riding is also prohibited. 

According to Baaghi TV’s reports, Mobile service will be suspended in some areas of Islamabad and Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to 9th Muharram. Service to be suspended in Quetta, Bolan, and Mastung in Balochistan province. Reportedly, services to remain suspended till 9 pm PST. Mobile phone service will remain suspended on Ashura day as well as prohibition on pillion riding.

Pillion riding to remain closed for 9th and 10th of Muharram in Lahore and Quetta, snipers will also be deployed and aerial surveillance will also be conducted. Reportedly, other cities have also made sctrict security arrangements with Karachi also banning pillion riding. Mobile phone services in Gujranwala, Punjab are also closed while pillion riding is also banned.

Moreover, mobile services to be partially suspended in Hyderabad, Sukkur, Mirpur Khas,  Larkana and Nawabshah, respectively. Internet services expected to be partially shut down in various cities as well.

According to reports, Chief Traffic Officer Lahore Captain (R) Liaquat Ali Malik has said that on the occasion of the ninth and tenth of Muharram al-Haram, traffic-proof arrangements have been made for the convenience of the citizens. Illegal black glasses and blue lights, fake green number plates, unprotected number plates will also be prosecuted, sources confirm.
