More Locust Attacks Feared
Lahore: According to reports, Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Fakhar Imam says that further locust attacks are feared from Oman, Iran, and Africa.
While giving a briefing at National Locust Control Centre (NLCC), Rawalpindi, he said that the attack has been controlled nationwide. NLCC, NDMA (National Disaster Management Authority), Pakistan Army, and the Pakistan Meteorological Department got together to control the attacks.
Fakhar Imam said that this is the first locust attack after 1992. China has given us chemicals valued at 49 lac dollars to fight the locusts.
He said that Rs 14 billion from the federal government and Rs 12 billion from all four provinces will be pooled to control the locusts, whereas 5 to 8 thousand soldiers of the army are working to fight the locusts.
On the occasion, National Coordinator NLCC Lt. Gen. Moazzam Ijaz, said that the next wave of locusts will pass through Africa and Oman on its way to Pakistan and then India, whereas in November and December, the wave will turn back from India towards those countries. Lt. Gen. Moazzam Ijaz further said that exchange of information is necessary to eliminate the locusts.
