Jan 9, 2022: A young tourist who came from Lahore to watch the snowfall in Murree died due to heavy snowfall and worst traffic jam, bringing the death toll to 23.
According to a report by BaaghiTV, rescue sources say a 4-year-old girl died due to exposure to severe cold and subsequent pneumonia in Jhika Gali area of Murree.
Rescue sources said that the girl had come to Murree from Lahore with her parents but was trapped with her family in heavy snowfall.
On the other hand, according to the latest report, relief work has been intensified in Murree after the cessation of snowfall and all the main highways of the tourist destination have been restored for traffic. The traffic has been cleared from Jhika Gali to Expressway and from Jhika Gali to Kaldana. The road from Lower Topa has also been cleared.
Chairman NDMA Lt. Gen. Akhtar Nawaz said that 90% of the roads in Murree have been opened and only empty vehicles are parked on the side of the road. The rescue operation was carried out by all including the Pakistan Army and civil institutions. The locals also assisted in the evacuation of the tourists and the evacuation was completed before nightfall.
