May 6, 2021: Yale university has elected a Muslim student as president for its student body for the first time ever as Bayan Galal made history by being elected to the office of the President of the student body.
Yale University in about 320 years old, among the oldest universities in America and is a part of the prestigious set of varsities called the Ivy League.
According to a local news station based in Connecticut, WFSB, Galal secured 56% of the student body vote for Yale College Council President making her the first Muslim ever to get elected to the position in over 3 centuries if the university’s existence.
Galal, a double major in molecular biology and global affairs with a minor in global health study, told WFSB that as a Muslim woman she has been able to accomplish much because of her colleagues and fellow humans advocating for her and people like her.
Yale is one of the eight schools in the Ivy League and is viewed as one of the most prestigious universities in the world.
