NAB chief briefed on Sharif family’s money laundering, other cases

LAHORE: Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Justice Javed Iqbal, Friday, paid a consecutive visit at NAB Lahore Bureau to review evolving updates in all Mega Corruption Scandals and proceedings over References under trial in hon’ble Courts. Director General (DG) NAB Lahore along with Combined Investigation Team (CITs) presented a thorough briefing to Justice Javed Iqbal over the cases investigations. Deputy Prosecutor General Accountability (DPGA), Chaudhry Khaleeq-uz-Zaman represented the Prosecution Wing of the Regional Bureau to highlight proceeds over under trial References.
The briefing comprised over cases of Sharif family’s money laundering and all other cases, Complaint Verification (CV) against Tahir Khursheed, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Punjab, Investigation against former MNA, Rana Sanaullah, Investigation against former Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Reference against Fawad Hassan Fawad, Reference against Ahad Khan Cheema and all other important cases. Chairman NAB issued important instructions in accordance with the developments appeared in cases.
While addressing the Prosecution Wing of NAB Lahore, Justice Javed Iqbal advised the Prosecutors to pursue each and every Reference with full dedication and devotion. He also asked to play an effective and decisive role in early conclusion of the References. Chairman NAB stressed the prosecutors to present all witnesses before hon’able Courts after their proper preparation. He continued by saying that NAB’s Prosecution Wing has a vital role to play for getting accused convicted in NAB References.
Justice Javed Iqbal maintained that NAB has been putting in exceptionally serious efforts to culminate corruption from society, whereas, bringing all mega corruption scams like cases of assets beyond known sources of income; misuse of authority matters, cases pertaining to money laundering; illegal Housing Societies’ affairs and others to their logical conclusion without any delay is the top most priority of NAB.
He further said that NAB has, so far, recovered Rs890 billion during his 4 years tenure and the same has been submitted in National kitty or disbursed among concerned affectees. He clarified that NAB is a solution to the problems faced by public and Country, as well. Moreover, NAB purely believes in merit based proceeding against corrupt elements, as per law.
He made it clear that the loyalty of NAB officers is for the Nation and Pakistani State only and not for any particular group or party. He advised NAB officers to conclude all Complaint Verifications (CVs), Inquiries and Investigations, as per law so that the corrupt elements may be brought under the court of law. Justice Javed Iqbal further told that the investigations against all bogus and illegal Housing Societies are being treated at fast track mechanism, so the affectees may be facilitated at earliest.
