NAB must be held answerable
Lahore, 18th June: Self-praise is no praise which is true in the case of National Accountability Bureau (NAB)’s performance. They have been claiming to have recovered a huge sum like over approximately a thousand billion rupees.
Today the leading anchor Mubasher Lucman reveals on his YouTube channel that NAB is normally getting settlement amounts in pre-bargain outside court settlement.
In reality, if we check the actual amount accredited in NAB account under this head till 2019, it is around 78 billion and another 38 billion can be added under the court fines.
The other departmental recoveries would account for some 90-100 billion which is way less than the claimed figures. The forensic audit of NAB is yet to be done and the performance would be further scrutinized.
Mubasher Lucman stated that NAB has the best tool to investigate people and take them in to verify assets more than income.
In the past, many cases have been made and investigative arrests have undergone like Shabaz Sharif, Nawaz Sharif, Asif Zardari, Ishaq Dar, Saad Rafiq, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Ismail Miftah, and Khursheed Shah are few big names to mention. But many questions are raised when there is no outcome after a long investigation.
No high profile case is finalized as yet and frustration is building and reliability of NAB is under question.
Whenever a NAB investigation is lodged, headlines are made and the reputations are tarnished. The unrepairable damage is done to the reputation and once they are acquited it is difficult to explain to everyone about their innocence.
Lucman claims that it is a high time that politicians should sit together and come up with legislation and make amendments in the NAB ordinance. NAB should be more effective and result-oriented.
