Nazim Jokhio murder: State to pursue case against perpetrators if family compromises with MPA

It has come to light during the course of investigations in Nazim Jokhio’s murder that he was tortured to death while trying to escape from Jam House.

Revelations by the guards of PPP MPA Jam Owais helped pave significant progress in the hostage and murder case.

PPP MPA Jam Owais is the main accused in the murder. Munir and Haider, two of Nazim Jokhio’s bodyguards, were arrested in the first police raid following his brutal assassination.

According to a report in The News, a senior police official quoted the confession of the PPP lawmaker’s security guards as saying, “Jam Owais was intoxicated after bringing Nazim Jokhio to the camp.”

“Nazim Jokhio was tortured after Jam Awais asked him for an apology and he refused.”

Jam Owais later ordered Jokhio to be kept in the dera until morning, but Jokhio tried to flee for him in the middle of the night, the guards as say that Jokhio was caught and tortured and that during that time he died.

Initially, PPP MPA Jam Owais was among the five named in the murder case, investigators said, adding that under Section 164 of the Criminal Code (CRPC), the statements of the accused were to be recorded. 11 more names have been added since then.

At least six suspects, including PPP MPA Jam Owais, have been arrested so far, police officials said, adding that MNA Jam Abdul Karim was among the four accused who had obtained pre-arrest bail.

In a separate development a day earlier, police recovered a mobile phone and clothes of a victim from a well near Jam House, the farmhouse of PPP MPA Jam Owais in Malir, Karachi. Investigators recovered Nazim Jokhio’s mobile phone and clothes from the well at the behest of the arrested suspects.

Police say the suspects set the well on fire after throwing the victim’s belongings into it. Police officials said most of the phones were burnt in the blaze, adding that the items would be sent to the Punjab Forensic Laboratory.

The incident happened when Nazim Zhukio stopped a car with a foreign number plate near his village in Thatta and asked the occupants why they closed the road and what they were doing there. Following which there was a verbal argument.

Subsequently, Nazim was threatened with death and the perpetrators tried to snatch his mobile phone. At that moment, he managed to escape. According to his brother, Afzal, Nazim had broadcast live on social media a hunting campaign involving foreign guests of PPP MPA Jam Owais. Later, the PPP MPA called him to his house where he was brutally tortured, according to Nazim’s family.

Police had on November 3 recovered Nazim’s body from Memon Goth area of ​​Malir.
