Netflix, the world’s largest streaming website, hinted at launching its first ever original web series from Pakistan. While official details of the project are yet to be known, journalist Hasan Kazmi on Saturday reported that the stream giant has greenlit its first original Pakistani project and allocated a big budget for the same.

According to Kazmi, the series is set to have three seasons with 13 episodes each. However, the authenticity of the claim remains unverified. No other details are known, however, netizens are already excited about the possibility with one user tweeting, “Hope this is real.”

Netflix launched the service in late 2016 in Pakistan, with a population over 220 million and has so far featured several Pakistani films and dramas.

The popularity of streaming Netflix in Pakistan has increased over the last few years and in view of this trend, Netflix has hinted at making first Pakistani original web series.

There were many people expressing doubts on Hasan Kazmi’s tweet and enquired about the sources of the news. To this, the journalist replied that he will soon give a full explanation in this regard.

While there suspicions about the web series being written by famous Pakistani writer Umera Ahmed or will probably be an adaptation of Shahid Hamid’s novel, Kazmi denied such claims saying that there is no truth to it. He also clarified that the series will not be an imitation of the Turkish web series.

The journalist did not elaborate further on the web series but more details are expected to emerge in the upcoming weeks. Netflix has not aired any original Pakistani web series, movies or shows in the last six years, while the website has made several series and movies in neighbouring India.
