New research: Many antibiotics are ineffective in treating typhoid

Lahore: People should be careful as many antibiotics are ineffective in the treatment of typhoid, a new research has come to light.

A study published in the International Medical Journal by University of Health Sciences Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Javed Akram has revealed that 70 to 80 percent of antibiotics are ineffective in the treatment of typhoid fever. Research has shown that in the diagnosis of typhoid, blood culture test should be done and the patient should be given antibiotics.

Prof. Javed Akram says that citizens should strictly follow the precautionary measures against typhoid in this season. Typhoid is causing 40% deaths with dirty water and unhealthy food being the major cause of typhoid, fever, cough and body aches. Diarrhea is a symptom of typhoid and corona, mild fever in corona however, fever rises upto 103 and 104 in typhoid.

Typhoid is an intestinal disease caused by a specific type of bacteria. Symptoms of typhoid include prolonged mild fever and headache. The only way to know if someone is infected with typhoid,is to test for Salmonella Typhi in the person’s blood or faeces.

Typhoid fever can cause intestinal bleeding and perforation. As a result, it can cause severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and sepsis.

According to sources, after the coronavirus, typhoid fever started spreading in Punjab. Hundreds of typhoid patients were reported in Lahore hospitals. In 10 days, more than 20,000 typhoid patients were reported across Punjab. In 5 major hospitals in Lahore, more than 8,000 cases were reported.
