Washington: US President Trump has said that the number of US troops in Afghanistan will be reduced to 4,000 or 5,000 by November this year.
“We’re going to reduce our troop numbers to 8,000 in the near future,” President Trump told HBO Television Network Sapper, “and in a short time after that, that number will go up to 4,000.”
We are negotiating. We have been there for 19 years. The US President did not give a final date for this but said that it will be done very soon.

President Trump stressed that we are leaving Afghanistan at an appropriate time. A peace deal was struck between the United States and the Taliban in February, followed by a gradual withdrawal of US troops.
Earlier this number was around 13,000 and now it has come down to 8,600. The United States has also vacated five military bases in Afghanistan. Under the agreement, the withdrawal of US and coalition forces from Afghanistan will be completed by July 2021.
According to US officials, under the agreement, the Taliban will negotiate with the Afghan government and other parties to restore peace in the country.
