JALALABAD: Militants carried out a major suicide attack on the largest jail in the most important city of Nangarhar province, killing two people and injuring 18, while more than 50 prisoners escaped.
On the other hand, local officials say that terrorists have carried out a major attack in which dozens of people are feared to be killed and injured.
According to private TV, a jail in Jalalabad city of Nangarhar province of Afghanistan has been targeted, after the bomb attack, there have been fierce clashes between the attackers and the forces. According to local officials, a suicide bomber detonated explosives in Nangarhar province. The loaded vehicle was blown up at the entrance of the jail in PD-4 of Jalalabad city.
A car bomb blast at the entrance killed one person and injured 18 others, while militants allegedly managed to enter the jail.
There were also reports of heavy gunfire from inside the jail, while three large explosions were also heard near the jail. The governor of Nangarhar has confirmed the escape of 50 prisoners.
Two people have been reported killed in heavy gunfire inside the jail, while local officials say dozens more are feared dead and injured in the militant attack, while security forces and militants have reportedly been killed. Meanwhile, the exchange of fire is still going on.
The Afghan Interior Ministry has confirmed the blast in Jalalabad but did not provide details. On the other hand, sources said that the attackers belonged to the banned terrorist organization ISIS, while the Afghan Taliban have acquitted themselves of the attack.
