OIC Summit to be held in Pakistan after 41 years: Government announces holiday
Baaghi TV: Federal Government announces holiday as the Extraordinary OIC Summit is going to be held in Pakistan after 41 years. The Government formally declares December 20 as a local holiday.
In a notification issued by the Cabinet Division, all federal ministries, divisions and all subordinate agencies will observe a holiday on Monday, December 20.
Talking to media at Islamabad International Airport, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that OIC welcomes distinguished guests to the meeting and all arrangements regarding the meeting are complete.
Foreign Office Spokesperson says Pakistan will hold 17th OIC Meeting with the Council of Foreign Ministers on December 19. Saudi Arabia had proposed to hold Foreign Ministers Council Meeting in Pakistan and they gladly accepted the honorable offer. The meeting will be attended by foreign ministers of OIC member states and observers. Participants will also include representatives of the United Nations and international financial institutions. Gaya, Japan, the European Union and the Afghan government will also attend the meeting.
Earlier, OIC Secretary General Hussain Ibrahim Taha arrived at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. On his arrival, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi received the OIC Secretary General and discussed matters related to Afghanistan.
At Islamabad International Airport, Minister of State for Information Farrukh Habib and senior Foreign Ministry officials welcomed the distinguished guest on the red carpet. Minister of State for Information Farrukh Habib said that he welcomes the OIC Secretary General to Pakistan. It is an honor for Pakistan to host the OIC Conference.
OIC Secretary General Hussain Ibrahim Taha said that Pakistan has played its best role for a peaceful and stable Afghanistan. The extraordinary meeting of the OIC is an important occasion.
The OIC Secretary General will also meet Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and will also attend the extraordinary meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers on December 19.
People going to offices in Islamabad has created disturbance amidst the preparations. The movement of OIC delegations may cause short-term obstructions on major highways in Islamabad.
Earlier, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi had said that peace in Afghanistan is in the interest of the region and the world. The meeting has been convened on Afghanistan. It is expected that other neighbors of Afghanistan will also play a role. The European Union has realized that if the situation in Afghanistan deteriorates, there will be much loss. We must learn from the mistakes of the past. The United States is also talking about playing a role for a stable Afghanistan. The last OIC Foreign Ministers’ Meeting was held 41 years ago in 1981. We can maintain regional ties through a peaceful and stable Afghanistan where there are serious risks of malnutrition and poverty at the moment.
The Federal Capital Territory of Islamabad has been decorated like a bride for the OIC Summit. According to Baaghi TV, the OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation) meeting is going to be held in Pakistan on December 19 for which the National Assembly has already passed a motion and given permission to give a hall for the OIC meeting. The administration has intensified preparations for the OIC meeting. The lights are being changed inside the parliament.
The carpets in the National Assembly hall are being cleaned and new ones are being laid. Special staff has been brought for cleaning the entire building by using chemicals. New flowers and plants are being planted and lights of different designs are being installed along with the light pool, while arrangements are also being made to illuminate the trees and plants with different colors. Arrangements for bringing VIP delegations from the airport to Parliament are also underway. Special cleaning and repainting work is also being done on the roads of Islamabad. Roads are being re-carpeted on Islamabad Highway and Expressway. Lines are being laid on the roads so that the best image of Pakistan can be presented to all Muslim countries.
A statement issued by Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi regarding the honorable meeting of OIC Council of Foreign Ministers to be held in Islamabad on December 19 said that some international and regional organizations were also invited to the meeting. The purpose of this meeting is to reflect on the serious humanitarian situation in Afghanistan and to formulate an effective strategy. According to UN estimates, 50% of Afghanistan’s 38 million people are currently suffering from severe hunger and this situation is getting worse day by day.
