Following the devastating effects of the Delta variant of Coronavirus, India is reportedly fighting yet another variant, Omicron with over 22,000 new cases.
According to reports, in the last 24-hours alone, India has confirmed reports of 22,775 news cases, with 406 deaths. The total number of Omicron cases has risen to 1,431. Meanwhile, active cases in the country are reported to be 1,04,781.

According to the Times of India website, a massive surge in cases has been confirmed following New Year’s eve. In Maharashtra, 8,067 new cases, in West Bengal 3,451 cases, and in New Delhi, 1,796 cases have been reported, respectively.

According to reports of the World Health Organization (WHO), following a gradual decrease in cases in October, the global number of new Covid-19 cases increased by 11% in the last week of December. However, the number of deaths remained similar to previous reports. According to WHO, “As of 26 December, over 278 million cases and just under 5.4 million deaths have been reported globally”.
