Aug 27, 2021: Both countries agree to continue exchanging information and data on design documents during the Pak-Russia LNG pipeline talks.

The first round of Pakistan-Russia technical talks on the Pak-Russia Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) pipeline project has come to an end in which the parties agreed to expedite planning and work, including field surveys and other studies.

According to a spokerperson, “The parties agreed to speed up planning and work, including field surveys and other studies.”

The technical officials of both the countries participated in the talks for the Pak-Russia LNG pipeline. The two sides discussed the progress made so far on the Pakistan Stream Gas Pipeline project. During the talks, it was agreed to expedite technical studies and surveys, an energy ministry spokesman said.

The 1,100-kilometePak-Russia LNG pipeline project, formerly known as the North-South Pipeline, aims to carry 12.4 billion cubic meters of natural gas a year. The name of the project against the threat of US sanctions on Russian companies was changed to ‘Pakistan Stream’ with its partnership structure.

The two sides agreed to continue exchanging information and data on the design documents. The spokesman said that the technical aspects and design parameters of the pipeline were also discussed.

Plans for underground gas storage of the pipeline in Sindh were also discussed.

Discussions were also held on connecting the gas pipeline to the crossing point of TAPI project in Multan.
