Lahore, 22nd April: Pakistan will be receiving its first batch of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine by June this year.

According to reports, Pakistan will be getting at least 100,000 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, the mRNA through COVAX by June 2021.

Officials have informed that in this regard, Islamabad has procured and installed Ultra Cold Chain (UCC) refrigerators for storing the vaccine.

An official from the National Health Services, Regulations, and Coordination confirmed, “COVAX has assured us of providing at least 100,000 doses of mRNA vaccine of Pfizer BioNTech by June this year. On their assurance, we have acquired and installed 23 UCC refrigerators throughout Pakistan.”

mRNA which is a double-dose vaccine prepared by Pfizer has a shelf life of six months when stored at -75C or -103F, which requires specialized freezers.

Meanwhile, heath officials in Pakistan have confirmed to take care of the storage of the vaccine by installing 23 UCC freezers at 16 locations across the country.

Officials informed that Pakistan was successful in procuring 23 UCC with the help of the financial aid from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) available with the UNICEF.

Besides the installation of specialized freezers, the government has hired specialized and trained teams to handle the sophisticated vaccine.
