Pakistan, India likely to face hunger crisis: UN

NEW YORK: The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations (UN) has warned that the Corona pandemic could lead to food shortages in many  countries, including Pakistan and India, leading to 49 million people living in extreme poverty worldwide.

According to the details, the devastation of coronavirus continues, the income is affected due to this pandemic and the poor are now suffering from extreme poverty, now a serious problem of malnutrition is also arising.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN says South and Southeast Asian countries, including Pakistan, India, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, will be hardest hit by food shortages. The world’s poorest region will face the hardest hit.

The FAO has warned that the coronavirus pandemic and its aftermath will intensify in the coming days, leaving 45 million people worldwide with severe food insecurity.

According to the report, the pandemic will cost the global economy 85 trillion in the next two years and will plunge 49 million people into extreme poverty. Two-thirds of the 45 million people suffering from malnutrition are from South Asia and Southeast Asia. .

It may be recalled that the World Bank had warned that due to the negative impact of coronavirus on the global economy, 60 million people would reach the level of extreme poverty.

The World Bank says the coronavirus has eroded the fruits of five years, with economic growth expected to slow to 5 percent this year, leaving millions unemployed and businesses shutting down.
