LAHORE: According to reports, Pakistan’s national carrier – Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), has come under fire after the management reportedly ordered its employees including flight crew to maintain a proper dress code.

According to an Informal Newz report, the airline has reinforced orders for the crew to mandatorily wear proper undergarments. The report adds that the PIA management has stated the airline’s image is tarnished when its crew, especially air hostesses, don’t conduct themselves properly.

It is pertinent to note that last year, there were similar reports of PIA enforcing its staff to maintain a proper dress code. At the time, ProPakistani reported that an advisory issued by the PIA General Manager Flight Services had noted cabin crew members dress “casually while traveling intercity, staying in hotels, and visiting various offices”. The advisory added that such casual dressing “leaves a poor impression on the viewers and portrays a negative image of not only the individual but also of the organization”.

PIA General Manager (GM), Aamir Bashir, has stressed the instructions are relevant for all crew members, male or female, and are aimed at ensuring its staff look smart at all times. Bashir added that the airline is aspiring to improve its image in the international market while remaining professional. However, the move has garnered criticism with many saying it has embarrassed the airlines.
