Pakistan introduces National Industrial Hemp & Medicinal Cannabis Policy 2021

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s National Industrial Hemp & Medicinal Cannabis Policy 2021 has been formulated, with Federal Minister Shibli Faraz saying that a cannabis authority would be set up to facilitate investors.

According to details, the Ministry of Science and Technology Shibli Faraz has prepared the National Industrial Hemp & Medicinal Cannabis Policy 2021 of Pakistan and sent it to the Prime Minister’s Office for approval. A cannabis authority will be set up to facilitate investors. One window operation will be launched under the regulatory authority.

Federal Minister for Science and Technology has said that innumerable applications are being received for cannabis cultivation. In the first phase, cannabis cultivation licenses were issued to 100 companies.

Moreover, he said that the policy was formulated after consultation with stakeholders. In this regard, consultations were held with the Ministry of Education, Commerce, Agriculture and Ministry of Narcotics Control.

The Federal Minister said that cameras would be installed in the field around the boundary wall of the cannabis cultivation area. The global cannabis market is over 100 billion, he added.

He further said that National Industrial Hemp & Medicinal Cannabis Policy was formulated for medical and industrial cultivation. Hemp cultivation will reduce imports of medicines and textiles.

It is to be remembered that Minister for Science and Technology Shibli Faraz stated that medicines will be made using cannabis, and that he was thankful to Allah that they moved away from misinforming reports.

It is to be noted that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Government approved the domestication and commercialisation of medicinal and industrial cannabis and hemp at a Herbal Medicine Park in Jhelum on September 3, 2020.
