Pakistan Rejects Indian Allegations Regarding Kashmir Elections
Pakistan has rejected all allegations leveled against it by the Indian Foreign Ministry regarding the Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections, calling them false, weak, and fabricated.
Rejecting a statement by the Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, the Foreign Office of Pakistan summoned the Indian Chief of Staff in protest and clarified Pakistan’s clear and unequivocal position on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.
The Foreign Office stated that India could not hide the fact that it had illegally occupied parts of Jammu and Kashmir, adding that India refused to remove itself from the illegal occupation. For the last 7 decades, especially since August 5, 2019, it has been involved in horrific human rights violations against innocent Kashmiris, it was stated.
It was stated that while the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir were enjoying the fruits of free and fair elections, the bloodshed of innocent Kashmiris was continuing in occupied Jammu and Kashmir at the behest of India.
It was further said that Jammu and Kashmir is a contentious issue between Pakistan and India and has been on the agenda of the UN Security Council since 1948, being an internationally recognized dispute.
The Foreign Office further said that India had promised the UN Security Council, Pakistan, other states, and the people of Jammu and Kashmir to abide by the UNSC’s resolutions but never abided by these promises.
It was further said that the illegal actions taken by India on August 5, 2019, its attempt to unilaterally change the internationally recognized disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir and change the demographic structure of the Occupied Territories was illegal. There are serious violations of the given resolutions.
The Foreign Office further said that the Security Council had made it clear that the final decision of the State of Jammu and Kashmir would be taken in accordance with the will of the people living there, following the democratic process of a free and fair referendum conducted under the auspices of the United Nations.
The statement called on India to immediately end its illegal occupation of parts of Jammu and Kashmir, stop serious human rights violations and immediately and fully implement the UN Security Council resolutions.
It may be recalled that Indian Home Ministry spokesperson Arundam Bagchi in his statement on the elections to be held in Azad Jammu and Kashmir last Sunday said that this move on Pakistan’s part was an attempt to cover up its illegal occupation.
He said that India had strongly protested against the holding of these elections in Pakistan and claimed that the locals too, didn’t wish to have them.
