Pakistani songs choreographed by Saroj Khan

Lahore, 13th July: The legendary Bollywood dance choreographer Saroj Khan, who recently passed away, has also choreographed a couple of Lollywood songs.

She has worked with Meera and Veena Malik alongside other Lollywood stars.

In June, Saroj Khan was rushed to the hospital due to respiratory problems, where she remained under treatment for two weeks but unfortunately passed away on July 3, aged 71.

The icon had choreographed more than 2000 songs and had worked on Bollywood’s blockbuster projects like Mr.India and Devdas. She worked with some of the biggest actors of Bollywood including Shahrukh Khan, Govinda, Aamir Khan, Madhuri Dixit, and Sridevi.

She also worked with some actors in Pakistan. Meera shared that Khan choreographed the songs of the film ‘Ghar Kab Aao Ge’ which was released in 2000. Whilst sharing her grief on the death of the legend with SAMAA Digital, she said that her song ‘Dil Ke Badle Dil To Saari Duniya Deti Hai’ from this film was choreographed by Saroj Khan herself.

The song from Meera’s last film in India, ‘Hawas’, was also choreographed by Saroj Khan. According to Meera, ‘She used to tell me that I should stay in India and not return to Pakistan so we could work together more.’

Whilst talking to Gulf News, Shehzad Gul, the producer of ‘Ghar Kab Aao Ge’, shared that he was introduced to Saroj Khan by the actor Manoj Kumar, who is a family friend. Gul says that he was concerned that Saroj might demand a lot of money, but when he approached her with his budget, she kindly agreed to his offer.

The song was shot in Manila, Philippines, and took 35 days to complete.

Saroj Khan also choreographed songs for the Javed’s Sheikh’s 2002 hit film ‘Yeh Dil Aapka Huwa’ and 2005 Pakistani film ‘Koi Tujh Sa Kahan.’

Whilst talking to SAMAA Digital, Veena Malik said that she met Saroj Khan in 2000, after signing her first film ‘Yeh Dil Aapka Huwa.’ Veena Malik shared that, ‘I was so nervous because I had no idea how to dance so Saroj Khan called me and said do whatever dance you can do.’

Veena Malik expressed that despite working with several famous choreographers in her career, she has never met anyone as kind, humble, and friendly as ‘Masterji.’

Veena Malik next met the icon whilst working on her film ‘Koi Tujh Sa Kahan’ in 2005, when Khan taught her how to dance with the rhythm. Malik further shared, ‘ Apart from the shoot, I used to talk to her often but now she is no more in this world, however, her memories are with us.’

Back in 1974, Saroj Khan had entered Bollywood as an independent choreographer. She got her big breakthrough after choreographing Sridevi in the song ‘Hawa Hawai’ from the 1987 blockbuster movie Mr.India.

She also worked with Madhuri Dixit and some of their best-known collaborations include ‘Ek Do Teen’ from Tezaab, ‘Tamma Tamma’ from Thaanedar,  and ‘Dhak Dhak Karne Laga’ from Beta.

In fact, the last song Khan choreographed was ‘Tabaah Hogaye,’ featuring Madhuri from Karan Johar’s 2019 film ‘Kalank.’

During her successful career, Saroj Khan won the National Award thrice, one of which was for the famous song ‘Dola Re Dola,’ featuring Madhuri Dixit and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, from Devdas.
