Petition against appointment of President of National Bank of Pakistan
Lahore High Court has reportedly heard a petition against appointment of President National Bank of Pakistan.
According to reports of Baaghi TV, the Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued a notice to the Federal Government on the application and sought a reply. The court has also issued notices to National Bank President Arif Usman to present his case in person or through a lawyer.
The court directed the counsel for the petitioner to give arguments on the admissibility of the petition. In general, the application was filed after one year and 5 months of appointment. How did the application become admissible?
According to reports of Baaghi TV, the President of the National Bank is generally appointed from Islamabad, however, he was appointed for Karachi. The jurisdiction of this court is limited. How can they intervene in this matter. It is better for the petitioner to approach the Islamabad High Court. The court directed the counsel for the petitioner.
The President is required to have a Master’s degree in Finance and Accounts from the National Bank. Meanwhile, current President National Bank Arif Usman does not meet this qualification. According to reports of Baaghi TV, he holds only a Bachelor’s degree in Physics.
Mr. Justice Jawad Hassan heard the public interest petition of citizen Naeemullah Afridi, and annulled the appointment of the President of the National Bank of Pakistan.
The court sought to order the appointment of a new president of the National Bank under the rules and regulations.
