PIA cancels working agreements with PALPA and other associations

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) cancels all working agreements with associations and the management will not entertain any representation from any such union, society or association.

PALPA working agreement and other union associations were declared null and void after PIA CEO Arshad Malik’s meeting with the Prime Minister today.

According to the notification issued, the illegal status of bargaining with the management of Pakistan Airline Pilots’ Association (PALPA), SSA, SAEP, ATAP and PACCA has been removed.

Under section 19 of the Industrial Relations Act, 2012, only Collective Bargaining Agent (CBA) is certified and will be able to function in a constitutional capacity.

Associations like PALPA formed pressure groups to enforce their illegitimate demands on the administration without any constitutional status. Therefore, they will no longer have any role in salaries and benefits of employees, transfers, refusal or change of duty and other matters.

Unlike other agencies in PIA, there were a large number of pressure groups operating in parallel with the PIA administration. These associations were the biggest obstacle to the reform process due to personal and political interests.

The purpose of the notification is to expedite the reform process in the crisis-ridden PIA and restore the writ of management, said the PIA spokesman.

According to the PIA spokesperson, according to the notification, no change has been made in the salaries, allowances and benefits of the employees.

Implementation of the Compulsory Services Act in PIA

Yesterday, the Compulsory Services Act was implemented in PIA for the repatriation of Pakistanis stranded abroad amid coronavirus. According to the notification, the Act will come into force immediately and will remain for the next six months. Moreover, the purpose of the Act is to ensure uninterrupted PIA flights and work out special flights operation to bring back stranded Pakistanis from around the world.
