Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has signed an agreement with L3Harris to acquire state of the art Reality 7E Evolution Airbus A320 Full Flight Simulator (FFS).

According to the details, this Airbus A320 FFS will be the first in the region. The simulator will be delivered to PIA in year 2022. PIA will be the launch customer Reality 7E Evolution Airbus A320 Full Flight Simulator (FFS) in Middle East, Africa, South Asia (MEASA) Region.

The simulator will be installed at PIA Training Centre (PTC) in Karachi. Presently, the national flag carrier is sending its pilots abroad for A320 simulator training. Installation of A320 at PIA Training Centre (PTC) will help PIA in saving millions of dollars.

The main purpose of this flight simulator is pilot training, refresher courses and air safety. Despite having 670 Airbus 320 pilots in Pakistan, the simulator was not available. All the pilots went abroad for training and refresher on the Airbus A320. The Civil Aviation Inspector also accompanied the student pilots to check the training. The cost of training pilots was about $300 per hour per pilot abroad. Most of the foreign exchange was done by local airlines in terms of tickets, accommodation and daily allowance.

PIA is constructing a simulator complex in Karachi in which simulators of Boeing 747, Boeing 777 and Airbus 320 will be installed in one place. The training venue will be attached to the Airport Hotel so that the student pilots can concentrate on the training.

The simulator is trained on the real situation on which the real cockpit end and the outside environment is created. PIA has acquired this simulator from the British company L3 Harris. The agreement was signed by Robin Glover-Faure, Vice President Sales & Marketing, L3Harris Commercial AviationRAF, Chief Executive Officer of PIA Air Marshal (R) Arshad Malik and President of L3 Harris Company, Christopher Eugene Kubasik.

The simple ceremony of the agreement was attended exclusively by the British Ambassador Christian Turner. With the advent of new technology simulators in Pakistan, the quality of training in Pakistan will be greatly improved, said Robin Glover.

“Pakistan and the United Kingdom (UK) are deeply rooted in friendship. With this modern equipment, Pakistan Aviation will go a long way. Pakistan and PIA will be less dependent on non-local training in Pakistan,” said the British Ambassador.

“Today is a very happy day for PIA and one of our most important projects is coming to an end. PIA used to spend a lot of resources on training its pilots from abroad. The introduction of this simulator in the country will be of great benefit not only to PIA but also to other domestic airlines,” said Air Marshal Arshad Malik.

“The PIA Simulator Complex is being set up at Karachi Airport where all the airlines and CAA offices and training centers are located. With the advent of this simulator, the standard of training and air safety in Pakistan will be on par with that of any developed country,” CEO PIA added.
